Translating
directly to “Palace of Shining Happiness”, under the occupation of the Japanese
the grounds were destroyed. However during King Gojon’s reign, all 7,700 rooms
were restored back to its former glory, under the leadership of
Heungseondaewongun. Also known as the “Northern Palace” it is arguably the most
beautiful in comparison to its counterparts, though both neighbouring palaces
of Changdeokgung and Gyeongheegung are still remarkable sites and well worth a
visit.
